Mass Timber Economics Study

Mass Timber Economics Study

About the project

Mass timber-based construction techniques have quickly taken root as a viable alternative to traditional concrete and steel. Traditionally, mass timber has been the preferred construction material for single-detached homes, and smaller format commercial uses. Recent innovations in engineering and building technology, as well as building code regulation changes have resulted in mass timber being increasingly utilized for mid, or even high-rise residential and office buildings. This has the potential to significantly disrupt the traditional approach to construction in the sector.

urbanMetrics was retained by BC-based Forestry Innovation Investments to develop an economic impact model that captures the complete mass-timber supply chain, including logging, sawmills, engineered wood product manufacturing, professional services, retailers and wholesalers, carpenters and aligned construction trades.
