Re-Imagining the Mall, Mississauga
About the project
urbanMetrics was retained by the City of Mississauga, in partnership with the Region of Peel to evaluate the evolution and future trajectory of the traditional indoor community shopping centre. Working in collaboration with Gladki Planning Associates and DTAH, our team evaluated the opportunity of re-urbanizing excess lands in Mississauga used for surface parking and poorly performing commercial space. Our evaluation included a financial analysis supported by prevailing housing prices and rents, the supply of affordable housing to support ongoing growth pressures, and escalating development costs.
The Re-Imagining the Mall initiative was recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners winning the 2021 Planning Excellence Award in the “Planning Health Communities” category.
