Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury – Seniors Housing Needs Assessment
About the project
Despite tremendous residential growth in Bradford West Gwillimbury (BWG) over the past several years, it was becoming apparent that the Town was losing long-time residents to nearby jurisdictions due to a pervasive lack of local housing options that cater to the needs of a growing seniors population. In response to the looming threat of losing more long-time residents, BWG retained the services of urbanMetrics to prepare a Seniors Housing Needs Assessment.
urbanMetrics used a variety of methods to identify the size of the seniors housing market in BWG both now and in the future. This included reviewing data from the Census of Canada, administering online surveys of the local seniors’ population and conducting focus groups. The use of online surveys and focus groups was important in identifying the housing type and accessibility options desired by seniors. The report is being utilized by the Town to market BWG as a viable location to develop new housing that caters to the seniors’ population.
