Riverwalk, Downtown Brampton
About the project
Climate change and flood risk is a major concern for the City of Brampton. The City’s historic downtown area is on the cusp of significant public and private investment opportunities; however, the prospect of catastrophic flooding present significant impediments to intensification and put major public assets such as transit terminals, rail corridors, schools and libraries at risk.
urbanMetrics was retained by the City of Brampton to carry out an independent economic impact study that addressed direct and indirect benefits of flood-mitigation and parkland re-investment by all levels of government both to enable future intensification of the downtown area (i.e. supporting good planning), while at the same time, protecting all private property owners from catastrophic flood damage. On behalf of the City, we prepared a business case and economic impact statement designed to quantify the benefits of municipal leadership and senior-government (provincial and federal) involvement in the proposed Riverwalk initiative.
