About the project
urbanMetrics was retained by the City of Orillia to provide economic advisory services to the city and its Mayor and Council in connection with a planned hospital expansion in Orillia. The existing healthcare facility, Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, had initiated a community engagement process that considered alterative locations to support its growing healthcare mandate in the region. The City of Orillia engaged urbanMetrics to provide an independent evaluation of various greenfield and brownfield options which could potentially support a new hospital complex. As part of our terms of reference with the City, urbanMetrics consulted with residents, healthcare works and the business community to understand the economic – and policy – implications of successfully re-locating a hospital in a manner that best supports the interest of taxpayers, patients and healthcare practitioners.
